After updating to iPadOS 26, multitasking on the iPad now works more like macOS, allowing multiple windows. Since this is quite different from before, it might feel inconvenient. Thankfully, there’s a way to bring it closer to the previous “full-screen first” style, so I’m sharing it here 🙏

(1) Open the iPad Settings app.

Open the iPad Settings app.

(2) Search for “Stage Manager” or “Multitasking,” then change “Windowed Apps” to “Full Screen Apps.” Unfortunately, in iPadOS 26, features like Split View and Slide Over are no longer available. It seems they have been merged into the “Windowed Apps” system.

(3) Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPad to open Control Center. From there, you can tap the icon below to quickly switch between “Full Screen Apps” and “Windowed Apps” depending on your needs.
